Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance after an attempted robbery at a fuel station in Saltcoats left a staff member badly shaken.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 17 March 2024, around 1.25 am, when an unidentified man entered the premises on High Road, confronting a male employee with demands for cash from the till.
The suspect, described as a white male, approximately 5ft 8 inches tall, of slim build, donned grey jogging trousers, a black padded jacket, white and grey Converse trainers, and a surgical mask in an effort to conceal his identity. Despite his efforts, the man fled the scene without any money, heading up High Road towards a large superstore.
Detective Constable Daniel Small is spearheading the appeal, urging witnesses or anyone in the vicinity at the time, including taxi drivers and motorists with dash cam footage, to come forward. “I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident. I would also like to ask taxi drivers and other road users to check their dash cam equipment as it could have captured the man as he was walking towards the fuel station. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please get in touch with us, no matter how insignificant you think it might be,” he stated.
The ongoing investigation includes a thorough review of CCTV footage to gain more details about the suspect. Authorities are determined to capture the individual responsible and are calling on the community for assistance.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0283 of 17 March 2024, or to report anonymously through Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
