The bottom of Ayr High Street has reopened following concerns regarding the stability of a building, masonry had fallen from the former Savers shop on Friday 5 July.
The loose stone and rubble which had fallen from the gable end of the building at 8-10 High Street, prompted Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to close off the bottom of the high street to vehicles and pedestrians to maintain public safety.
A structural engineer was instructed to undertake a survey and inspection of the building to assess damage and ongoing risk. Following this inspection, the protected area was reduced and the road reopened with protection reduced to the footway only.
Additional works to stabilise the stone work have now taken place and the protective fencing adjacent to the building is set to be removed and the footpath reopened.
A spokesperson for South Ayrshire Council said:
"The closure of the high street was requested by the emergency services to maintain public safety in response to an emergency situation and I'm sure the public will understand the circumstances."
