Ayr MSP urges those struggling with energy debt to get help

SNP MSP Siobhian Brown is urging those worried about energy debt to seek the help available. This comes after she attended a Warm Home event at the Scottish Parliament, where she spoke to Scottish Gas representatives about the help they can provide those struggling.

Through the British Gas Energy Trust those eligible can get up to £2,000 to help write off their energy debt. In addition, the company works with its partners to provide fuel vouchers to assist in meeting heating costs. Scottish Gas representatives also provided valuable advice on how to access the Warm Home Discount, which is a £150 that you can apply for if you are on a low income and how to enrol in the Priority Services Register, which offers additional help to vulnerable customers in need.

Commenting Siobhian Brown MSP said:

"If you are struggling with energy debt, the first step is to ask for help. Support is available, and it’s vital that people know there are services like the British Gas Energy Trust ready to help ease this burden.

The British Gas Energy Trust initiative is designed to provide critical assistance to those facing financial pressure, particularly during the colder months when heating costs can rise. With many families finding it difficult to cope with escalating energy bills, I want to remind people that help is out there.”
