Essential Parapet Replacement Works Set to Get Underway on The A77 at Spittalhill

ESSENTIAL PARAPET REPLACEMENT ON A77 AT SPITTALHILL COMMENCES SUNDAY 2nd JUNE

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential bridge parapet and safety barrier replacements on the A77 Kilmarnock Bypass at Spittalhill from Sunday 2nd June until Thursday 11th July

This is the first phase of work at this location and will be on the southbound carriageway. Details on the second phase on the northbound carriageway will follow in due course.

The work will be carried out using continuous 24-hour single-lane closure of the near side lane in the southbound carriageway at this location:

  • In addition, there will be two single-night total closures at the start and end of the works to install and remove the temporary safety barrier. These closures will be in place between Bellfield Interchange and Spittalhill from 8pm and 6am on Sunday 2nd June, and then between 8pm and 6am on Thursday 11th July. Traffic during these closures will be diverted through Bellfield at Bellfield Interchange via Queens Drive, Hurlford Road and Ayr Road to re-join the A77 south of the structure.

  • There will also be three total overnight closures of the A77 southbound on -slip on Sunday 9th June, Monday 10th June and Tuesday 11th June between the hours of 8pm and 6am each night. This is to facilitate the hydrodemolition of the parapet plinth. Traffic wishing to join the A77 southbound will follow the above diversion in reverse, joining the A77 at Bellfield Interchange.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather-dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition and safety of the parapet structure and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
