LOCALITY POLICING - UPDATE - IRVINE - HOME AND VEHICLE SECURITY
‘If it doesn’t look right, it’s probably wrong. Noticed any strange cars in your neighbourhood? Overheard or saw anything or anybody suspicious? Think you know who’s committing housebreakings in your community or selling stolen goods? Don’t assume it’s already been reported.’
That’s the message on postcards being distributed by Locality Police Officers in Irvine following a recent rise in reported thefts in the area.
Recent incidents in the Montgomerie Park, Bourtreehill, Fullarton and Ravenspark areas of Irvine have seen property stolen from within houses and vehicles.
Sergeant Jason Peter, of the Irvine Locality Policing Team, said “enquiries are ongoing into recent incidents with officers going door to door and reviewing CCTV in the area. We have deployed officers in uniform and in plain clothes in the area and our patrols will continue. I would appeal to anyone with information on those responsible to please contact us.
“This weekend officers have also been out and about speaking to local people and distributing the postcards from CrimeStoppers Scotland as a reminder for everyone to review their security and report any suspicious activity immediately.
“There are some simple steps we can all take to reduce the opportunity of us falling victim to thieves - ensuring the doors on our vehicles and homes are locked, removing property from open display and keeping vehicle keys in a safe place away from doors and windows.”
