Kilwinning Faces Christmas Without Lights: Community Calls for Support

The festive season in Kilwinning might be a little less bright this year. North Ayrshire Council's 2024 Budget has seen the removal of funds designated for the installation of Christmas lights across the region.

Local community groups have now been informed that they will be responsible for covering the costs, which are estimated to exceed £5,000.

This budget cut poses a significant challenge for towns like Kilwinning, which may find themselves without the traditional Christmas decorations that bring cheer and festivity to the streets.

The absence of these lights would be a noticeable change for residents and visitors alike, potentially impacting the community spirit and local economy during the holiday season.

In response, community leaders have launched a petition calling on the council to reverse the decision and reinstate the funding. They are urging residents and supporters to sign the petition and make their voices heard.

"We need the council to support our town and ensure that our community can enjoy the Christmas lights as we have in the past," said a local organiser. "This isn't just about decorations; it's about maintaining the spirit of our community during a special time of year."

The petition can be signed online at [Petition Link](https://chng.it/xq2ZMwZdTP), or residents can visit local shops to add their names in person.

The community hopes that a strong show of support will persuade the council to reconsider the budget cut and bring back the festive lights that mean so much to Kilwinning.
