Local Ayrshire acts set to perform and switch on Kilmarnock Christmas Lights

It’s illuminating! Kilmarnock’s town centre will be ablaze with light from Sunday 27 November, as the switch is flicked on Christmas lights to get the festive season truly underway.

The event, which has grown hugely in popularity over the last few years, starts at 13.00 with the craft market in Bank Street & Bank Place.

Then at 2.00pm the show begins with a full programme of live entertainment on two stages, at the Cross and in Bank Street. The focal point is the main stage at The Cross, however the community stage in Bank Street has become the centre of a “fringe” element creating a boutique event within the event.

It was originally introduced to celebrate local schools and groups while the main stage also features predominantly local acts from indie rock to a local choir, with music and entertainment to suit all the family.

Of course, shopping will be a big part of the day and the Christmas craft market in Bank Street and Bank Place is returning by popular demand. For the youngsters, there’s free face painting in the Burns Mall and a mini kid’s funfair at Foregate Square. And as ever look out for the street entertainers, from mad Christmas elves to juggling Jack Frost.

Last year, a huge attraction was the stunning “Narnia Experience” produced by the New Laigh Kirk. It returns this year, with a new venue, in their church hall on John Finnie Street.

Finally, at 5pm Provost Jim Todd will be joined by some very lucky local children to switch on the towns Christmas lights, officially marking the start of the festive season in Kilmarnock town centre. Have a great Christmas!
