Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, has announced essential resurfacing works on the A77 at Whitletts Roundabout in Ayr.
The maintenance is set to commence on Tuesday, 5th November, and is expected to conclude by Wednesday, 20th November 2024. This project is part of a broader package of resurfacing works on the A77 this autumn and winter, which also includes Bankfield Roundabout and Holmston Roundabout.
The scheme aims to benefit over 35,000 vehicles that use this route daily by enhancing the road surface and journey quality, while also reducing the need for future, more extensive maintenance.
The resurfacing will occur in six phases, each involving specific road closures and diversions. Motorists are advised to plan ahead and familiarize themselves with the following schedule:
Phase 1: Lane Closures
When:
Nightly from 8 pm to 6 am, Tuesday, 5th November until 6 am Friday, 8th November
Details:
Lane closures on the approach to the A77 northbound from the A719 and the B743 Heathfield.
Additional Closure:
From 8 pm Thursday, 7th November until 6 am Friday, 8th November, lane closures on the A77 southbound approach to Whitletts Roundabout and the A77 northbound departure from the roundabout.
Phase 2: Partial Roundabout Closure and Exit Closures
When:
From 11 pm Friday, 8th November until 6 am Monday, 11th November
Details:
Total closure of the northbound section (Towards Glasgow) of Whitletts Roundabout.
Contraflow system in operation for southbound traffic.
Closure of the A719 roundabout arm.
Diversions:
A77 Northbound Traffic:
Divert left onto Highfield Drive.
Left onto B743 Heathfield Road.
Right onto Ayr Road.
Follow A79 northbound and A78 southbound to rejoin A77 at Dutchhouse Roundabout.
A77 Southbound Traffic:
Divert left onto Highfield Drive.
Left onto B743 Heathfield Road.
Left onto A79 Ayr Road.
Continue through Allison Street, John Street, Station Road.
Rejoin A77 at Holmston Roundabout via A70 Holmston Road.
B743 Heathfield Road Closure:
A77 northbound traffic turns right onto Low Road to join A719.
Right onto Allison Street, proceed through Ayr Road, Main Street, A79 northbound, and A78 southbound.
Rejoin A77 at Dutchhouse Roundabout.
A77 southbound traffic follows the same diversion in reverse.
Phase 3: Lane Closures
When:
Nightly from 8 pm to 6 am, Monday, 11th November until 6 am Friday, 15th November
Details:
Lane closures on the approach to the A77 southbound, including the B743.
Phase 4: A77 Southbound Mainline Closure
When:
From 8 pm Thursday, 14th November until 6 am Friday, 15th November
Details:
Closure of the A77 southbound between Sandyford Toll Roundabout and the B743 exit at Whitletts Roundabout.
Diversions:
Traffic diverted via B742, A719, B730, and B743.
To access B743 east, continue on A77 north to Sandyford Toll Roundabout and follow the diversion.
Phase 5: Partial Roundabout Closure and Additional Exit Closures
When:
From 9 pm Friday, 15th November until 6 am Sunday, 17th November
And from 11 pm Sunday, 17th November until 6 am Monday, 18th November
Details:
Total closure of the southbound section of Whitletts Roundabout.
Contraflow system for northbound traffic.
Closure of the B743 Heathfield Road, A719, and B743 East roundabout arms.
Diversions:
From B743 Heathfield Road:
Cannot join A77 southbound.
Use A77 northbound to Sandyford Toll Roundabout, return south through works.
A719 Traffic:
Turn right onto Low Road, right onto A719, right onto Allison Street.
Proceed via Ayr Road, Main Street, A79, A78 to rejoin A77 at Dutchhouse Roundabout.
Southbound traffic returns through the works.
B743 East Traffic:
Follow A77 north to Sandyford Toll Roundabout.
Use B742, A719, B730, and B743.
To join A77 from B743 East, follow the diversion in reverse.
A77 Southbound Exiting for Heathfield Road or A719:
Continue to Holmston Roundabout, return north to access junctions.
Phase 6: Lane Closures
When:
From 8 pm Tuesday, 19th November until 6 am Wednesday, 20th November
Details:
Lane closures on the A77 southbound approach to Whitletts Roundabout and the northbound departure.
Additional Information
Emergency Services: Access will be maintained throughout all phases.
Weather Conditions: All works are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled if conditions are unfavorable.
