The Mauchline Primary School and Early Childhood Centre (ECC) community are celebrating the results of their recent inspection, published on Tuesday 1 April, by Education Scotland.

The ECC and school were inspected by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) back in February. In their report the inspectors highlighted the key strengths. Headteacher, Robyn Davidson and the school leadership team were praised for demonstrating ‘highly effective leadership’ and for setting ‘a clear direction for the school, based on a thorough understanding of strengths and areas for improvement’.

The inspectors also praised the ‘respectful, happy and motivated children, who are proud of their early childhood centre and school. They show confidence, kindness and respect and demonstrate the school values’. The report also praises the positive relations staff build with children and their families; the highly inclusive learning environment and the consistently high levels of children’s attainment and achievement over time across the school.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People visited the school to congratulate Headteacher Robyn Davidson and her team, with local members Councillors Claire Leitch, William Lennox and Alyson Simmons, and Linda McAulay-Griffiths, Chief Education Officer and Head of Education. Councillor Cowan said: “I was delighted to visit Mauchline Primary to congratulate Headteacher Robyn Davidson and the whole school on such a positive report.

“It was clear from speaking to the teaching and support staff, and to the children and young people just how much this report means to the whole school. The inspectors recognised the ‘strong and collaborative teamwork of staff in the school. Together, they focus on high-quality learning, teaching and assessment which is leading to consistent experiences and improved outcomes for children.’ And it couldn’t have been more evident during our visit. One teacher said that the report made her heart swell with pride when she read it. It was really uplifting to spend the morning with such a dedicated team.”

Headteacher Robyn Davidson said:

“A team of six inspectors from Education Scotland joined us for a week back in February and participated in all aspects of ECC and school life. The children and young people had a vital role to play in the inspection process, meeting and talking with the inspectors. I am so proud of them all and delighted that the Inspectors recognised in their report that our children were respectful, happy, confident and kind.

“This report is the result of positive teamwork and collaboration. The children and young people are at the centre of every decision we take and their wellbeing is our highest priority. I am so pleased for the whole team that inspectors recognised that the strong teamwork is leading to positive outcomes for our children and young people.”
