A new booking system will be introduced at North Ayrshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres next month with the aim of making visits smoother and quicker.

The Council operates four Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in Irvine, Kilbirnie, Largs and Brodick.
From late April, residents will be asked to use a simple digital booking system to book a slot at an HWRC which should help reduce queuing at peak periods.
The new system – which has proven successful in other parts of the country – is expected to bring benefits to both residents and staff.
It will allow customers to book slots at HWRC sites at a time convenient to them and this will enable staff to assist customers to dispose of their household waste safely and correctly, minimising contamination and improving recycling.

Councillor Gurney added:
“We also expect the new system to benefit our hard-working HWRC staff who provide a fantastic service.
“While incidents of aggression towards staff are a rare occurrence, they have happened. We hope that by managing the number of customers on site at any one time, it will lead to a more efficient and stress-free service which will hopefully reduce any instances of aggressive behaviour.
“Importantly, we should see significant environmental benefits with fewer emissions from vehicles sitting in traffic and better reuse and recycling with a reduction in cross-contamination of waste.”
The new booking system will come into effect in late April. Please keep an eye on North Ayrshire Council’s website and social media channels in the weeks ahead for further details on how to use the new booking system.
