Provost Anthea Dickson presented the Marymass Festival Committee with a cash donation of more than £900 and urged other local groups and community organisations to lend their support too.
The £912 raised at this year’s festivities will go towards the cost of staging next year’s festival.
The £912 donation was as a result of generous donations made by guests at the Provost’s reception held during this year’s Marymass celebrations. The Provost encouraged guests to become festival ambassadors by making a donation and the sum raised was the highest ever achieved at the annual event.
Leading lights of the Marymass festival, Danny Kerr and Laura Potter, were on hand to collect the donation.
Laura said:
“We are very grateful to the Provost for this kind donation towards the Marymass Festival. As with many community festivals, we face a real challenge in securing the funding required in order to ensure the festival continues to survive.
“The festival is organised entirely by volunteers who work all year round to fundraise, plan and organise the festival. Marymass is a festival for the community, and we would welcome any financial help and support offered by businesses and organisations."
The Marymass Festival is one of the oldest festivals in the country and is run in partnership by Irvine Carters' Society and the Marymass Festival Committee.
