Scotland’s biggest Airshow has been paid a massive compliment by the RAF with the announcement that the Red Arrows will double their appearances at the hugely popular Ayr seafront Scottish International Airshow.
They are part of a huge lineup of exciting expert aerobatic displays which are set to thrill the public on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September 2018.
Check out our exclusive interview with Airshow director Doug Maclean.
“Airshows have been run in South Ayrshire for 50 years and this is the first time the Red Arrows have planned a double display in Scotland”, said Doug Maclean, joint Airshow Director.
He continued: “We had a 5 year plan when we started in 2014 and we are right on track with the growing international importance of Scotland’s brightest and most exciting aviation and family weekend. There will be truly something for everyone with the many ground displays and attractions from funfairs to Science and Technology exhibitions. ”
“We could not run such a prestigious event without the support of our sponsors and backers: South Ayrshire Council, Spirit Aerosystems, EventScotland, UTC Aerosystems, Glenmavis Traffic Management and Launch Digital who provide us with a great start to every Airshow”, said Doug.
“We are in discussion with other companies who want to be part of the success of the Scottish International Airshow which broke all records last year by attracting an estimated 150,000 visitors over 2 days.”
Councillor Brian McGinley, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure said: “With an unprecedented Council funding package in place for Airshows in 2018 and 2020 and a commitment to building on the success of the fantastic previous events, we can already see that this year’s flying programme is building up to be the most exciting yet.
“I have no doubt that the Red Arrows’ double display will be a major draw for visitors from across the country – and beyond – and bring in tens of thousands of tourists who will get the chance to enjoy all that South Ayrshire has to offer.
“Enhancing our tourist offer and boosting South Ayrshire’s profile on the national and international stage is a key part of our programme for governance and the Airshow will go a long way to helping achieve that. It’s going to be an amazing event.”
Paul Bush OBE, VisitScotland’s Director of Events, said: “EventScotland is delighted to be continuing its support of the Scottish International Airshow, particularly in this special 100th anniversary year of the RAF. Scotland is the perfect stage for events and the double appearance of the Red Arrows will definitely be one of the highlights of this fun family day out.”
"I am personally very excited to see what I consider to be our best lineup yet. We know Airshows insipire and that’s what we aim to do in September” said Danny Anderson, joint Airshow Director.
“I can now confirm that in addition to the Red Arrows #ScoAir18 will feature –
Swiss Airforce F18 “Hornet” fighter jet, The historic Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, RAF Typhoon supersonic jet, RAF Falcons parachute team, RAF Tutor aerobatic trainer aircraft.”
Danny said “We will be announcing more high class displays in the weeks ahead and we will announce them on our Website www.tsia.scot and the Scottish International Airshow Facebook and Twitter pages. “
