Life-saving kit which includes vital first aid equipment, and a portable AED has been presented to the newly re-established Troon Community First Responders (CFR) group by St John Scotland.

The kit will enable group members to respond to potentially life-threatening emergencies in Troon, such as a cardiac arrest or seizure in the vital first few minutes before an ambulance crew arrives.

The Troon CFR group covers from Prestwick to Drybridge and Riccarton and all areas within this region. The group currently has seven trained CFR volunteers, and they are looking for additional volunteers to join the group.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) currently has over 900 CFRs across the country. St John Scotland will continue to work with SAS to offer financial assistance to various existing and new CFR schemes around the country, supporting six groups with life-saving kits every year. In return, the Troon CFR Group will support St John Scotland with their CPR and defibrillator training and awareness sessions in the region.

Michael Dickson, Chief Executive of the Scottish Ambulance Service, said:

“I’m delighted that St John’s donation will support the Troon Community First Responder group. Our CFR volunteers are a vital link in the chain of survival.

“SAS are grateful to each of our CFRs for their dedication and commitment to support people in their local communities”

Colin McCormick, Chair – Ayrshire & Arran Area, St John Scotland, said:

“It is wonderful to be able to support Troon Community First Responders and get along to visit their base.

“It’s obvious that they have a highly skilled and committed team who will be able to make good use of the equipment we have supplied and make a difference to the lives of those in the community.”
