ScotRail Services to Ayr will Return to Normal on Monday With a Full Timetable Being Reintroduced, Limited Return of Services to Stranraer

ScotRail services to Ayr and Stranraer have been affected following the fire at the nearby Ayr station hotel, which required safety works and demolition. During the works, replacement buses have helped to keep customers moving, with a limited diesel train service to Ayr.

With Network Rail authorising the reinstatement of services on the line, ScotRail will now be reintroducing a full timetable of electric services from Glasgow Central to Ayr station.


From Monday, there will also be a gradual reintroduction of diesel train services between Kilmarnock, Ayr, Girvan, and Stranraer. Services will be limited from Monday to Saturday (see below), with a full timetable in place on Sundays.

Replacement buses will operate for services still to be reintroduced.

“We’re pleased to be reintroducing a full electric service to Ayr station, and a gradual reintroduction of services to Stranraer.


“We know how disruptive the demolition work has been for customers, and thank them for their patience over the past months.

"We are very pleased that all impacted routes will begin reopening for business, and we look forward to welcoming customers back to the railway on Monday."

“We’re pleased to be able to confirm that all platforms within Ayr station will re-open on Monday, allowing more services, including between Ayr and Stranraer, to return It’s another major milestone following the devastating fire which resulted in the station being closed for several months."
