Stewarton Academy’s Young Enterprise team PAWS brought home six out of ten awards at the young enterprise Ayrshire regional finals recently, including the coveted Company of the Year award.

The PAWS team is made up of 17 highly motivated and ambitious S5 and S6 pupils who design, manufacture and sell oak pet-based products. Their best selling product is a dog bowl stand but they have also had success with items including bird houses, bird feeders and leash holders.

At the Ayrshire regional finals held at UWS Ayr Campus, the business was put through its paces ‘The Apprentice’ style with a written report provided the day previous, then a presentation and team interview on the day.

The business was then awarded Best Marketing, Best Interview, Best Product or Services, Best Trade Stand, Director of the Year and Company of the Year.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education and, Children and Young People said:

“I am delighted to offer my congratulations to PAWS. Six out of ten awards is incredible and a testament to the dedication of our young people to all aspects of their company. What a wonderful achievement!”

PAWS spokesperson said:

“From this experience we learned a lot about working in a team and running a business. We used a lot of Stewarton Academy's school values at the heart of our business to be the best it could be, which improved our knowledge of these values. On all platforms we are @paws.stewarton, feel free to check us out!”
