The Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team joined colleagues from across Area 4 at Pinkston Watersports Centre for a full day of Flood Rescue training.
The team joined colleagues from Arran Coastguard Rescue Team, HM Coastguard Cumbrae, Largs Coastguard Rescue Team and Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team with additional support from colleagues from the East coast along with all four Area 4 Senior Coastal Operations Officers.
The training session focussed on the resilence operations as part of the Coastguard's remit under Civil Contingencies in response to both coastal and inland flooding.
Throughout the day, teams were put through their paces in a variety of flood related scenarios including wading techniques and the use of newly issued flood rafts for casualty extraction.
Coastguard Rescue Teams are specially trained and equipped for both water and flood rescue at the coast and in support of partner agencies at inland locations.
Regular training ensures teams maintain this specialist skillset and remain operationally deployable and up to date with the latest techniques and equipment. Inter-team training sessions are invaluable as it is highly likely multiple teams would be deployed in response to a flooding incident.
Pinkston Watersports Centre provides an excellent training venue and allows a range of water and flood related conditions to be simulated in a safe training environment.
