Alan Gemmell MP has welcomed a major new £750 million agreement between UK Export Finance and GE Aerospace which will support work at the company’s Prestwick facility.

The five-year agreement will allow airlines to access UK Government-backed financing for engine maintenance and overhaul work carried out at GE Aerospace’s sites in Prestwick and Wales, helping bring more business to the facilities and supporting skilled jobs and their wider supply chains.

Alan Gemmell MP, Member of Parliament for Central Ayrshire, said:
“Prestwick’s aerospace industry is world-class. I want to see it continue to grow, bringing investment and good, skilled jobs to Ayrshire.
“This £750 million agreement is a significant vote of confidence in GE Aerospace’s operation here in Prestwick and another example of the UK Government backing jobs and industry in our communities.
“It will make it easier for airlines from around the world to bring engine overhaul work to Prestwick, supporting the highly skilled workforce already here and helping secure further opportunities for the future.
“Ayrshire has the skills, expertise and history to be at the heart of the UK aerospace industry, and I’ll continue working with GE Aerospace and the UK Government to make sure we build on that potential”
The agreement was signed by UK Export Finance and GE Aerospace at the Farnborough International Airshow and will make up to £750 million of financing available to qualifying airline customers
