Motorists are being warned to expect disruption in Kilbirnie as SGN prepares to begin a five-week programme of gas network improvement work.
The project will get underway on Monday, 31 August, following consultation with North Ayrshire Council.
Temporary three-way traffic lights will operate throughout the work at the roundabout connecting Main Street, Bridge Street, Bridgend and Garnock Street.
Garnock Street will also be closed at its junction with the roundabout for the duration of the project while engineers work within the roundabout itself.
SGN said the essential improvements would help ensure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for many years.
The project forms part of the company’s 30-year programme to replace ageing metal gas mains that are reaching the end of their operational life with modern plastic pipes.
SGN Engineering Manager Bryan Robertson said: “We’ve worked closely with the local authorities to carefully plan this essential work, and we’ll be doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum throughout the project.
“We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient and frustrating for residents, businesses and those travelling through the area, and we’d like to thank the community for its patience and understanding while this work is carried out.
“We’re sorry for the disruption these works may cause and will do all we can to complete them as safely and efficiently as possible.”
The replacement plastic pipes have a minimum expected lifespan of 80 years and are designed to provide a reliable and future-ready gas supply for decades to come.
