Dean Castle and the streets of Kilmarnock will provide the backdrop for a new Halloween celebration this October, featuring family activities, ghostly castle tours and an immersive horror escape trail.

Ayrshire360’s Scareshire programme runs from 10 to 31 October, with events ranging from a free witch hunt for young adventurers to an adults-only challenge combining live performance, local history and cryptic puzzles.
The programme begins with The HallowDean Hunt, a free, self-led family trail at Dean Castle throughout the celebration. Visitors will be challenged to search for witches hiding in the castle’s shadows, follow clues and crack a secret code.
Families can also head to the castle on Sunday 25 October for the HallowDean Family Fun Day, running from 11am to 5pm.

Activities will include potion making, spooky storytelling, creative sessions and a mysterious feely box challenge. The Monster Mash disco will bring dancing, games and a family costume competition, with visitors encouraged to dress for the occasion.
Entry to the family fun day is free, although the tote bag and badge-making activity costs £5.
The castle will take on a more unsettling atmosphere on 28 and 29 October, when Scream at the Dean explores its darker past through haunting history, ghostly legends and chilling surprises.
Guided tours will lead visitors through dark corridors and winding staircases, revealing stories associated with the ancient building. The experience is recommended for those aged over 12, with £12 tickets including a hot drink and a sweet treat.
For adults looking to test their nerve, Six Feet From Freedom will take to the streets of Kilmarnock on Friday 30 October.
The immersive horror escape trail will feature notorious characters, live performances and puzzles as participants attempt to uncover a hidden word and make their escape.
The trail is strictly for people aged 18 and over, with tickets costing £8.
Visitors can also enjoy Halloween cocktails, food and themed stalls from local makers at the Killieween licensed bar and food court.
The new programme brings together daytime family entertainment and evening scares, giving visitors several ways to celebrate Halloween in Kilmarnock.
