Residents in Kilwinning continue to experience disruption to their water supply more than 24 hours after a major water main burst, with Scottish Water deploying tankers to provide a temporary supply while repair works continue.

The disruption began early on Saturday morning (17 October), affecting households across parts of the KA13 postcode area.

Scottish Water has since deployed water tankers to feed a temporary supply directly into the local network, helping to restore some level of service to affected properties. Although, some streets and properties are still reporting that they have no supply despite the tankers adding water to the network.

However, water pressure remains low, with residents advised to use the available supply sparingly while engineers continue their efforts to resolve the issue.

Some households may continue to experience intermittent supplies or remain without running water altogether.

In an update issued at 6.30am on Sunday, Scottish Water confirmed that excavation work was ongoing as engineers attempted to access the damaged pipe and establish the most appropriate method of repair.

While the introduction of tankers has helped provide some temporary relief, the normal water supply has not yet been fully restored.

There is currently no confirmed timescale for when repair works will be completed and normal water pressure will return.

Ayrshire Daily News understands, from updates provided to local councillor Donald Reid, that Scottish Water is also investigating a secondary issue which may be contributing to the disruption.

The nature of this issue and any impact it may have on the ongoing repair works have not yet been confirmed.

Questions also remain over the availability of bottled drinking water for affected residents, particularly those who are not registered on Scottish Water’s Priority Services Register.

Although a temporary supply is being fed into the network, the reduced water pressure and possibility of further interruptions mean that households are being asked to use the temporary supply for essential needs only and avoid using dishwashers, washing machines, etc - as supply is limited.

ADN have requested an update on the progress of the repair works, the reported secondary issue and when residents can expect normal service to resume.

Ayrshire Daily News will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as information becomes available.
