A new smart tag system designed to help reunite lost dogs with their owners has recorded its first successful reunion in Ayrshire.
Ayrshire Drone Dog Rescue confirmed that Buddy, a black Cocker Spaniel found in Stevenston on Saturday, July 25, was safely returned to his family after he was discovered wearing one of the organisation’s ADDR smart tags.
Buddy was found at around 5.35pm, with the reunion confirmed just 20 minutes later at 5.55pm.
The successful outcome marks an important milestone for Ayrshire Drone Dog Rescue, showing how the tags can quickly connect a found dog with its family and reduce the time and distress involved in a missing pet incident.
The organisation said the reunion represented the beginning of a new era for finding lost dogs, with the tag allowing Buddy’s details to be identified and his owners contacted almost immediately.
Ayrshire Drone Dog Rescue is the primary volunteer search and rescue team for lost and found dogs across Ayrshire, using drones, ground teams and specialist equipment to support owners during missing dog incidents.
The team is also urging anyone who safely catches a loose or lost dog to contact them as soon as possible. Volunteers can check the animal for a microchip and compare its details with active missing dog reports.
