After more than a month of unforgettable football, the FIFA World Cup 2026 reaches its spectacular conclusion tonight as Spain take on defending champions Argentina in the final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
While only one nation will lift football’s greatest prize, this year’s tournament has been a special one for Scotland – marking our first appearance at a FIFA World Cup since France ’98.
Although Steve Clarke’s side bowed out during the group stage, that only tells part of the story.
Across the Atlantic, Scotland’s supporters became one of the tournament’s biggest attractions, with thousands of Tartan Army fans – including many from Ayrshire – transforming the streets of Boston into a sea of blue.
From fan marches and packed pubs to renditions of Flower of Scotland echoing through the city, Scottish supporters once again proved why they are regarded as some of the best in world football. Their passion, humour and friendliness won admiration from fans across the globe, with the now-famous phrase “No Scotland, No Party” ringing true wherever they gathered.
For many Ayrshire fans, the trip was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, following Scotland back onto football’s biggest stage after a 28-year wait. Despite the disappointment of an early exit, the memories created away from the pitch will last a lifetime.
Scotland may not have reached the knockout rounds, but the Tartan Army certainly left its mark on World Cup 2026, reminding the football world exactly what had been missing since 1998.
