Relatives of residents at a Prestwick care home have praised staff for creating such a warm and welcoming environment that they feel “part of the family”.
The positive feedback was highlighted during an unannounced Care Inspectorate visit to Renaissance Care’s Berelands House.
Inspectors spent two days at the 63-bedroom care home, speaking with residents, staff and 38 friends and relatives as part of the assessment.
In its report, published this month, the Care Inspectorate praised the home’s “warm and inclusive culture” and said feedback from residents, relatives and professionals was consistently positive.
One relative told inspectors: “We feel part of the family,” while another said they had real confidence that their parent was being well cared for.
Inspectors also observed kind and respectful interactions between staff and residents, describing the care provided as safe, compassionate and focused on protecting people’s dignity, wellbeing and relationships with others.
Berelands House manager Teresa Mangonon said the home’s strongest asset was the people who live, work and visit there.
She said: “I’m incredibly proud of the genuine, family-orientated culture we’ve created at Berelands.
“It is a culture built on connection and trust, where everything we do is centred on supporting and advocating for our people.
“I’m delighted this has been recognised and shines through in the inspection findings.”
The report also praised the way residents and their families were involved in decisions about improvements and refurbishment within the home.
Inspectors said this helped ensure residents lived in a comfortable, safe and supportive environment where their preferences were respected and risks were properly managed.
They also highlighted the “consistently warm, compassionate interactions” between staff and residents, adding that people appeared relaxed, engaged and supported to take part in meaningful activities and daily routines suited to their interests.
Berelands House includes its own shop, tearoom and hairdressing salon, as well as a courtyard garden designed to resemble a traditional street. Covered areas allow residents to enjoy the outdoor space throughout the year.

The Care Inspectorate regularly assesses more than 11,000 registered care services across Scotland, examining areas including wellbeing, leadership, staffing, the care environment and planned support.
