Replica Spanish galleon to open decks in Ayr
A replica of a 17th-century Spanish galleon will welcome visitors aboard when it calls at Ayr during its 2026 European tour.
The Galeón Andalucía will open to the public at South Harbour Street from August 13 to 23, between 10am and 8pm each day.
Visitors will be able to explore the vessel's decks and learn about life aboard the galleons used by the Spanish Crown for maritime expeditions and trade routes between Europe, America and Asia from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
The Galeón Andalucía was built following three years of research into original Spanish galleons. Its construction took 17 months and involved 150 people before the vessel was launched in February 2010.
The approximately 500-ton ship is around 49 metres long and 10 metres wide, with six decks and more than 320 square metres of usable space. Since its launch, it has crossed the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans and sailed through waters including the Mediterranean, Caribbean and Red Sea.
Discounted online tickets are available until August 12, subject to availability. Online admission costs £12 for adults, £6 for children aged five to 10 and £30 for a family of two adults and up to three children.
Tickets bought at the ship cost £15 for adults, £7 for children aged five to 10 and £37 for a family ticket. Children under five can enter free when accompanied by an adult.
