A teenager was rescued after falling on rocks at Culzean Beach on Wednesday afternoon, prompting a large-scale emergency response involving the RNLI, Coastguard, ambulance service and an air ambulance.
The alarm was raised after the youngster suffered injuries following the fall on the rocky shoreline beneath the cliffs at Culzean.
Volunteers from Girvan RNLI launched to the scene to assist alongside HM Coastguard rescue teams, while the Scottish Ambulance Service and an air ambulance were also mobilised. Emergency crews worked together to reach the casualty in the difficult coastal terrain before providing treatment at the scene.
The teenager was later taken to hospital for further medical care. Their condition has not been disclosed.
The incident once again highlighted the challenges emergency services can face when responding to incidents along the rugged coastline around Culzean, where rocky beaches and steep cliffs can make access difficult.
Previous rescues in the area have required specialist equipment and close coordination between lifeboat crews and Coastguard teams.
The rescue serves as a timely reminder for anyone visiting Ayrshire’s coastline during the summer to take extra care around cliffs and rocks, particularly as surfaces can become slippery even in dry weather.
