The development will be built on part of the racecourse car park off Whitletts Road, close to the mini-roundabout serving Ayr Racecourse, Tesco Extra and McDonald’s.

Connekt EV has been granted permission to create eight electric vehicle charging bays on the 873-square-metre site. The application was approved by council planning officers on 5 June 2026.

The plans show four charging units serving the eight parking bays, with each space measuring around 2.5 metres by 6.2 metres. A new electricity substation, lighting columns and an illuminated signage column are also included.

The existing area of hardstanding will be resurfaced and enclosed by fencing measuring two metres in height. The charging station will have a dedicated entrance and exit for vehicles.

Planning documents describe the site as being between Tesco Extra and Ayr Racecourse, with the charging station positioned across from McDonald’s.

The charging speed has not been specified in the planning documents.

No objections were submitted during the planning process and no consultations were undertaken.

Council planners concluded that the development would make efficient use of previously developed land and provide electric vehicle charging infrastructure in a safe and convenient location close to a major transport route.

The planning report also found that the development would not be visually obtrusive, as it would be surrounded by existing buildings and commercial premises. It noted that there are no residential properties in close proximity to the site.
