International recording artist Murray Gee Mac is heading back into the studio for an exciting new country album, working alongside veteran Scottish producer and musician Dougie Stevenston, a man whose career has seen him work with some of the most celebrated names in country music, including the legendary Sydney Devine.
For Murray, the new album marks another major chapter in a showbusiness career stretching back decades.
The Ayrshire entertainer has performed around the world, including many years entertaining audiences aboard cruise ships, while appearing at venues across the UK and overseas.
His recording career began at just 15 years old when he performed alongside his two brothers as The 3 Mac’s.
In 2015, Murray released the Scottish anthem My Scottish Home, written by his former agent Jock Campbell.
Now he is preparing to return to the studio with a producer who brings with him an extraordinary pedigree in Scottish country music.
“I’m beyond excited,” said Murray.
“To be working with someone with Dougie’s experience and knowledge of country music is a fantastic opportunity for me. I can’t wait to get back into the studio and start recording.”
A CONNECTION TO SCOTTISH COUNTRY LEGEND SYDNEY DEVINE
Dougie Stevenston has spent decades at the heart of the Scottish and international country music scene, but one of the most significant names among the artists he worked with is the late Sydney Devine.
Sydney became an institution in Scottish entertainment and one of the country’s most recognisable country performers, building an exceptionally loyal following during a career that spanned generations.
His distinctive voice and unmistakable style made songs such as Tiny Bubbles synonymous with a golden era of Scottish country entertainment, while his concerts attracted devoted audiences across Scotland and beyond.
Dougie’s association with Sydney is therefore particularly significant as Murray prepares to make his own mark on the country music scene.
Alongside Sydney Devine, Dougie’s remarkable career has seen him work with major international country performers including Billie Jo Spears, Stella Parton and Boxcar Willie, as well as acclaimed Scottish singer Lena Martell and many others.
His talents extend far beyond the producer’s chair.
Dougie is also a highly accomplished steel guitarist, an instrument at the very heart of the traditional country sound, and brings decades of musicianship and first-hand experience to Murray’s forthcoming recordings.
Audiences were given a taste of the partnership last week when Dougie joined Murray on stage for his sell-out debut show, A Night Of Country, at Ardrossan Civic Centre.
The concert had sold out five weeks in advance, with Murray, his Country Show-band and special guests delivering a packed evening of country favourites.
The night ended with a huge response from the audience and a standing ovation.
Following that success, attention now turns from the stage to the recording studio.
Murray plans to put his own distinctive stamp on a collection of great country songs, combining his voice and years of live performance experience with Dougie’s production, musicianship and knowledge of the genre.
There is also something fitting about the partnership.
Dougie has worked with performers who helped establish and popularise country music for generations of Scottish audiences, most notably the legendary Sydney Devine. Now that experience will become part of a new recording project with an Ayrshire entertainer looking to carry his own country show to audiences across Scotland.
The album will bring together classic country favourites, Murray’s distinctive vocal style and Dougie Stevenston’s considerable production and musical experience.
It is planned for release before the end of 2026, ahead of Murray’s 2027 Scottish theatre tour of A Night Of Country.
