As the clocks prepare to go back and the Ayrshire wind picks up, many people notice their skin feeling drier, tighter or more sensitive than it did in summer.
Cold air outdoors and central heating indoors both reduce moisture in the skin, which is why a few small adjustments to your routine can make a noticeable difference.
Switch to a gentler cleanser
Foaming cleansers that felt refreshing in July can strip natural oils in October. A cream, milk or balm cleanser removes make-up and grime without leaving skin feeling taut.
Layer up your moisture
Look for ingredients such as glycerin, hyaluronic acid and ceramides, which help skin hold on to water. Applying moisturiser to slightly damp skin helps lock that hydration in.
Do not ditch the SPF
UV rays still reach the skin on grey days. A daily moisturiser with SPF is an easy way to keep protection going through the darker months.
Anyone with persistent dryness, redness or irritation should speak to a pharmacist or GP for advice.
