North Ayrshire Council’s Community Learning and Development service is organising the CLD Awards, with a celebration planned for Ardrossan Civic Centre in March 2027.

The awards will recognise dedication, achievement and contributions to community life across the area’s six localities.

Residents have until midnight on Sunday 22 November 2026 to nominate someone they believe deserves recognition.

Councillor Alan Hill, Cabinet Member for Communities, Housing and Islands, encouraged people to put forward those whose efforts often go unrecognised.

He said: “North Ayrshire Council is delighted to once again be connecting with communities to celebrate and acknowledge the contributions of local volunteers and learners who give up their own time selflessly, freely and are the lifeblood of our communities.”

The categories open for nominations include:

The Shirley Morgan Award for Capacity Building
Recognising people who help others overcome barriers, build confidence and develop new skills, with a focus on community impact, inclusion and empowerment.

The Adult Learning Achievement Award
Celebrating commitment to adult learning and personal development, including efforts to increase participation, improve wellbeing and help others overcome barriers to learning.

The CLD Special Recognition Award
Honouring people who give their time, skills and energy to support others and strengthen communities, often over many years and with little expectation of recognition.

The Alex Pettigrew Award for Youth Work
Recognising individuals who have made a positive contribution through youth work, demonstrating resilience, determination and a passion for helping others.

The Youth Achievement Award
Celebrating young people who make a difference in their communities through their commitment to youth voice, achievement, inclusion and personal growth.

Councillor Hill said the council would continue to support community groups and individuals through its CLD service, helping residents overcome barriers and build stronger communities.

He added: “This is why it is so important to give them the opportunity to step into the spotlight, therefore we would warmly encourage North Ayrshire residents to take a moment to nominate who they would like to celebrate in their own community.”

Nominations opened on Monday 26 October and can be submitted using the council’s online nomination form. Staff at local libraries and community centres can help residents complete their submissions.

Paper copies can also be requested by emailing info@northayrshire.community.

The awards form part of the council’s Community Learning and Development Strategic Plan to strengthen and empower communities.
