Motorists and locals are being advised of an overnight road closure on the A77 near Kilmarnock to allow essential electricity network improvement works to be carried out safely.

The closure will be in place between Bellfield Roundabout and the Spittalhill Junction (Kilmarnock Exit) from approximately 8pm on Saturday 14 November until 5am on Sunday 15 November.

To facilitate the works, traffic will be diverted on Ayr Road and Hurlford Road in Kilmarnock. Drivers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time where necessary.

The closure, which is scheduled overnight to minimise disruption, is required to allow the safe replacement of overhead line infrastructure crossing the busy A77 dual carriageway. The work will involve replacing two electricity poles located on either side of the carriageway and installing new overhead conductor across the road.

One of the existing poles has been in service for around 60 years, having been installed before the A77 dual carriageway was constructed, and has now reached the end of its operational life.

The project forms part of SP Energy Networks' ongoing low-voltage (LV) pole replacement programme, which is helping to maintain a safe, reliable and resilient electricity network for local communities.

Martin Maxwell, District General Manager for Ayrshire and Clyde South at SP Energy Networks, said:

"We would like to thank motorists and local residents in advance for their patience and understanding while this essential work is carried out.

"The overnight closure is necessary to allow our teams to safely replace ageing infrastructure and install new conductor across the A77. By replacing both poles now, we can help avoid further disruption at this location in the future and ensure the network continues to operate reliably for years to come.

"We are working closely with Amey Highways and will complete the work as safely and efficiently as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the closure."

The work is being carried out on behalf of SP Energy Networks, with Amey Highways supporting the traffic management arrangements.
