Stagecoach South Scotland is encouraging people heading to two of Ayr’s biggest events this month to leave the car at home and travel by bus instead.

Thousands of visitors are expected to descend on the town for the Scottish Bowls National Championships, taking place from 8 to 15 August, and the Ayr & District Flower Show, which will be held on 14 and 15 August.

To help visitors travel easily, Stagecoach says it will provide a range of services linking Ayr with surrounding towns, offering a convenient alternative to driving and helping to reduce congestion.

The Scottish Bowls National Championships, held at the National Centre for Bowling, is one of the country’s biggest bowls events. More than 16,000 spectators attended last year’s championships.

Visitors travelling to the event can use Stagecoach’s express services between Glasgow and Ayr, as well as local services 2, 4, 6, 14 and 585, which connect Ayr with communities across the region.

Meanwhile, the popular Ayr & District Flower Show at Ayr Racecourse will once again showcase stunning floral displays, gardening exhibits, baking competitions, craft stalls, local traders, entertainment, food and family activities.

For the flower show, Stagecoach services 2, 3, 6, 43A and 43/343 stop within a short walk of the racecourse, making it easy for visitors to reach the venue without worrying about parking.

Fiona Doherty, Managing Director of Stagecoach South Scotland, said: “With these travel options, we can connect visitors to both of Ayr’s biggest summer events, providing regular and convenient transport for all, reducing congestion in town centres and ensuring everyone can get around safely. We hope all visitors have a great time during both events.”

Stagecoach is also reminding passengers that under-22s and over-60s can travel free with a valid National Entitlement Card.

For everyone else, a range of ticket options is available, including DayRider tickets for unlimited daily travel, 7-day MegaRider tickets for those attending events across several days, and group tickets offering savings for families and friends travelling together.

Passengers can also plan journeys, purchase tickets and track buses in real time using the Stagecoach Bus App.
