The sixth Burns First Edition Festival was a great success again this year, drawing visitors and local people alike to celebrate the special relationship Burns had with Kilmarnock.
Provost Claire Leitch was Chieftain of the festival for the second year running and took part in the many events that were held over the week.
From Burns trails to musical performances and the ‘Tak a Cup ‘o’ Kindness Café’, there was something for everyone to get involved in, and the Provost enjoyed attending the Festival Fringe; the Alternative Burns Supper; the Chieftain’s Gala Dinner, and the Commemoration of the First Edition.
A particular highlight was the ‘Best Haggis’ competition in which butchers from across the region battled for the coveted prize.
Provost Leitch said: “I was honoured to be Chieftain of this special festival again this year and I thoroughly enjoyed attending the events and meeting so many Burns enthusiasts as well as those who are new to his work.
“My thanks go to all of the organisers and volunteers whose hard work made the festival the great success that it was.”
