North Ayrshire Council is continuing to deliver improvements to walking, wheeling and cycling routes in and around Irvine's i3 Business Park.
The latest works – supported through funding from the UK Government's Local Regeneration Fund - are focusing on upgrading the River Irvine Path between Long Drive and the B730, improving the quality and accessibility of the route by widening sections of path and enhancing connections to the wider active travel network.
Construction is due to commence on 10 August 2026. While the programme has been allocated up to 52 weeks, it is anticipated that the overall period may be shorter.
Due to the constrained nature of the site and the need to ensure the safety of both the public and construction workforce, the River Irvine Path will be closed for the duration of the works. Opportunities to partially reopen sections of the route will be considered as the project progresses, where this can be achieved safely.
Alternative routes between Irvine and Dreghorn are available via Long Drive, Corsehill Mount Road, Campbell Place and Townfoot. Due to the significant length, duration and varying nature of the alternative routes, a signed diversion route will not be provided.
Once complete, the improvements will provide a safer and more attractive route for people walking, wheeling and cycling, while strengthening links between communities, employment areas and recreational destinations.
We recognise that the closure will cause inconvenience for regular users of the path and would like to thank the public in advance for their patience while these important improvements are carried out. These improvements will build on the investment already made on Long Drive and will create a higher quality active travel route along the River Irvine. Once complete, the upgraded path will make it easier, safer and more attractive for people to walk, wheel and cycle, helping connect communities, workplaces and local greenspaces across the area. This investment reflects our continued commitment to improving active travel infrastructure, supporting sustainable travel choices and enhancing access to employment areas and greenspaces.
